THE DARK SIDE OF SOCIAL MEDIA

In today's world, we are so connected with social media that we can't stop ourselves using it for a single day. The world feels lifeless without it but with such an increase in the use of it there are some dangerous consequences of social media. I know that it has been very beneficial for us but there is some harsh outcome of it which we will be talking in this. 



1.  LOSING FOCUS THROUGH SHORT VIDEOS !

In today's date there is a huge trend going on of short videos like Tik-Tok and Reels. We are consuming this type of content at at huge rate day by day. Lets take Reels as an example and talk about its negative effects on our Mental Health. 

So you might be thinking what's wrong in using Reels they are entertaining and yes they are but there is something you need to look. Usually these videos are of 10-40 seconds and in this much of time the creator has to do something crazy and entertaining.


Now let's talk about real reason why they are harmful to us. So these Reels are of very short duration and as we finish watching one video another video pops up. So we trying to get a kick of entertainment in that much of duration. 

And watching these Reels for a long duration affects our brain in such a way that it reduces our Attention Span i.e; our ability to focus on things for a long time. I even noticed that people who watch these stuff for a long time actually can't focus. Like when they watch a 10-20 minutes video they can't focus on it. They want something new every one minute. So I think this is a very serious issue we need to think of. 

2. THE NEGATIVE EFFECT


The another main reason why we should reduce our Social Media usage is The Widespread of Negativity. Just assume that you have you have two different videos to watch, one of them is titled "Google Cloud Storage Data Leaked" and other one titled "How Google provides best cloud storage" you are definitely going to watch the first one because intentionally or unintentionally we love to go with Negativity over Positivity. 

And more concerning fact is that this Negativity we watch on Social Media actually affects our Real life. We become angry and gets irritated by normal things. Not only it affects our mental health but it literally kills our productivity. We get exhausted by consuming all the negative content on it. 


3. FAKING LIFESTYLE ON SOCIAL MEDIA !

As we talked about the negative effects lets talk about how we get influenced by this Social Media. On a daily basis we use Instagram, Snapchat, YouTube, etc. and we see a lot of people sharing their lifestyle with us. We see people wearing expensive clothing, using high end expensive phones, driving Audi, BMW, etc and we think that how happening and good life are they living not knowing the reality behind it.



A huge percent of people showing off their rich and happening life on Social Media is fake. Not all people are faking some of them are really rich but a lot of people try to be like them. We post stories driving a BMW which is obviously not ours and flex it infront of our followers who don't even care about you. On Instagram no one posts their photos in which they doesn't look good they only post perfect photos. No one wants to be real we want perfection. 


4. DISCONNECTION FROM THE REAL WORLD !

Just tell me what is your daily screen time of your Smartphone. There is a huge chance that it will be more than 6 hours a day which is ¼ of the day. And due to Covid-19 it has increased even more. I know that you use your phone or laptop for work purpose but a huge group of people don't, they just use it for consumption of content from Social Media. 


Spending this much of time on our phone make us disconnected from the real world like how often do you talk to your friends or family. We just forget to enjoy our life in real world, for just trying to flex it on the Social Media. 


We really need to stop our enormous consumption of Social Media. We can go to park, talk with our friends, family and we should live in the practical world instead of this Fake Social Media World.
